ORANGE CITY, Fla., August 15, 2019 – AdventHealth Fish Memorial recognized registered nurse Ray Mckeever with the DAISY award.
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses.
Mckeever is a nurse in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was nominated for this recognition by a colleague at AdventHealth Fish Memorial.
“He loves God, his family, his work family, and his work. He displays unbelievable human compassion in every situation and with every patient and family,” the colleague wrote. “Ray once took care of a drug-addicted patient who shared that Ray made her feel human, valued, and gave her great hope. He sat with her, listened to her, and prayed with her. She told him that she felt God’s presence between them… the same God she thought had written her off long ago.”
“The single worst thing that could happen to any of us is to find ourselves or a loved one in the ICU,” the colleague added, “But the best thing that could happen is to be assigned Ray Mckeever as your nurse.”
Created in 1999, more than 2,500 healthcare facilities in all 50 states, as well as 15 other countries, use the DAISY Award to honor nurses.
In recognition of this honor, Mckeever received a bouquet of daisies, a certificate, a tote bag, and a hand-carved stone sculpture of the “Healer’s Touch” by an artist of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.
His unit, the AdventHealth Fish Memorial ICU, also received cinnamon rolls and a DAISY banner to display.
