ORANGE CITY, Fla., December 15, 2016 On Dec. 7, the community joined Florida Hospital Fish Memorial for a presentation on knee, hip and shoulder pain featuring orthopedic surgeon Dr. Benjamin Thomasson.
Over lunch at the DeBary Golf and Country Club, Thomasson shared with attendees that more than 28 million people in the U.S. are estimated to have osteoarthritis, the painful degeneration of joint cartilage and the underlying bone, especially in the hip and knee joints.
Knee replacements were first performed nearly 50 years ago in 1968 and are one of the most successful surgeries we do, he said. In the U.S., more than 600,000 knee replacements are performed every year. These surgeries help those who have been living in pain for years get back to the activities they love to do.
