Health care is now the No. 1 employer in Flagler County, surpassing the accommodation and food service industries for the first time, the Palm Coast Observer reports.
Greg Blosé, president and CEO of Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber of Commerce, noted that the Chamber’s research has consistently encouraged the region to diversify its economy by creating well-paying jobs.
For over two decades, AdventHealth has served Flagler County residents and visitors and employs nearly 1,800 people.
In the past year, the hospital system invested over $200 million in the growing community’s health care infrastructure, including the opening of AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway, the construction of the Freytag Cancer Center, and bringing eight new physicians to the area.
“We are proud of our role in reaching this new milestone of health care becoming the largest job creator in Flagler County,” said Denyse Bales-Chubb, president/CEO of the AdventHealth market in Flagler and St. Johns counties. “This second hospital answered a great need, and as our community has grown, so has the need for additional health care services. In addition, our two hospitals had significant increases in patients seeking care last year, which led us to hire more team members and physicians, with even more on the way.”
