Adventist Health System (AHS), which includes Shawnee Mission Health (SMH), was recognized in Becker's Hospital Reviews 2016 150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare list. The list of organizations features both U.S. health care provider organizations as well as other types of health care specific companies. SMH employs more than 3,000 people across multiple campuses and physician offices.
"To be recognized once again as a great place to work in health care is an honor," said SMH President and CEO Ken Bacon. "Our associates commitment to Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ can be seen not only in their interactions with patients, but also in the supportive work environment they create each day."
The organizations included in this years list were chosen based on recognition previously earned for workplace excellence, as well as benefit offerings, wellness initiatives, and efforts to improve professional development, diversity and inclusion, work-life balance and a sense of community among associates.
In honoring AHS, Becker's Hospital Review noted that associate benefits vary from campus to campus, but system-wide benefits include a tuition reimbursement program, company-paid flu shots and cafes with healthy menu options. SMH also offers an on-site Early Learning Center for the children of associates and physicians and an associate wellness program.
