As the Program Director of AdventHealth Redmond’s Transitional Year Residency, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our program. We are fortunate to have the benefit of the outstanding faculty and infrastructure provided by AdventHealth Redmond’s successful Internal Medicine Residency and the over fifty-year history of innovative, state-of-the-art care provided by the physicians and staff at Redmond. It is our desire to provide you with a first post-graduate year that is an outstanding launching point for the next steps in your education and career. This Transitional Year Residency is not intended to provide you with a complete post-graduate experience but to provide you with a strong foundation in clinical medicine within a system known for its dedicated, innovative, and compassionate care.
Our affiliations with the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and with Harbin Clinic, Georgia’s oldest and largest physician owned and directed physician group, provides robust, diverse, and exceptionally able faculty dedicated to your educational experience. The faculty at AdventHealth Redmond Graduate Medical Education have a national reputation for excellence and strong relationships with the leaders in their specialties, which place them in a unique position to help you in making the successful move to the next stage in your specialty training.

Here, it’s our goal to ensure you get the essential training you need for your chosen specialty. That’s why the transitional year resident schedule is customized to each resident.
We position residents for success in:- Anesthesiology
- Dermatology
- Internal medicine
- Neurology
- Ophthalmology
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation
- Radiology
Residents choose electives in two- to four-week blocks, including:
- Anesthesiology
- Business of medicine/policy and advocacy
- Cardiothoracic surgery
- Dermatology
- Ear, nose and throat (ENT)
- Neurosurgery
- Neurology
- Ophthalmology
- Orthopedics and sports medicine
- Pediatrics
- Physical medicine and rehabilitation/pain management
- Primary care
- Radiation oncology
- Vascular surgery
- Venous surgery
A sample schedule includes:
- Ambulatory/Continuity Clinic: 4 to 6 weeks
- Inpatient/general medicine: 8 weeks
- Night medicine: 4 weeks
- ICU: 4 weeks
- Emergency medicine: 4 weeks
- General surgery: 4 weeks
- Vacation: 3 weeks + 1 educational leave

Transitional Year Residents earn a PGY-1 salary of $58,970 for their one-year contributions.
Other benefits include:
- Residents receive up to 20 days paid days off (PDO) annually, which are inclusive of sick time, vacation time, holidays and personal days
- Medical/dental/vision/life/disability/401K
- Professional fees:
- Program-provided training license
- USMLE Step 3/COMLEX Level 3 study materials and exam fee reimbursement
- Technology support, which includes a stipend for equipment purchase
- Cell phone monthly stipend
- Moving relocations expense reimbursement by the program up to $1,000
- Lab coats
- Meal support

Free Clinic of Rome
Free Clinic of Rome is a faith-based, community-supported non-profit whose mission is to serve the Northwest Georgia counties of Floyd, Polk and Chattooga by providing quality health care services to uninsured residents with no access to basic health care.

Harbin Clinic
Harbin Clinic is the largest privately owned, multi-specialty physician group in Georgia, comprised of 240 medical professionals representing 40 different medical specialties and services.

Rome Gastroenterology Associates
Located across from AdventHealth Redmond, Rome Endoscopy Center serves as the teaching facility for outpatient endoscopy and gastrointestinal (GI) intervention.

Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic
Northwest Georgia Medical Clinic trains residents in women’s health, office gynecology care and obstetrics and gynecology.

Diabetes and Endocrine Specialists of Cartersville
Led by Harini Jalagani, MD, residents undergo rigorous training in diagnosing and managing diabetes, thyroid disease and other endocrine and metabolic disorders.

How to Apply to Our Transitional Year Residency
We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applicants must submit their application by November 15 through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Application requirements include:
- Three letters of recommendation
- Curriculum vitae
- Dean’s letter
- Passing scores on USMLE Step 1, Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Step 2
